A Vegan Alternative
This is a great and easy slimming world recipe, so I had to make a vegan version. You can convert it really easily.
First replace the chicken with some firm tofu. Dice it into squares and make a spice mix for it. You will find many spices that work well. Try 1 teaspoon of cumin and 1 teaspoon of fenugreek to start, you can add some chilli flakes if you like more heat in your meal.
Add A Little Spice
Put the cubes in a bowl and sprinkle the spices over the cubes. Then shake the bowl to spread the spices evenly and cook just as you do the chicken in the original recipe. You can replace the oyster sauce with a dash of balsamic vinegar or some tamarind sauce or maybe just add a little more soy sauce.
If you want something with a more chicken like texture there are various mock chicken options you can try. Making them from seitan or soy is an option and there are many commercial products available that will fit within the guidelines of any slimming world recipe.

This is another great slimming world recipe that’s easy to transform. You can cook it as it is but without the pork or chicken and you won’t be disappointed. Adding some roasted seeds can transform it though. I used roast pumpkin seeds for an omega 3 boost. Any seeds can be used so it’s a great way to target any nutrient deficiencies you may have.
Seeds and Nutrition
Hemp seed is a concentrated source of omega-3 oils and an omega-6 oil called GLA. It contains high levels of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc and also adds to your daily dose of vitamins C, A, E and some B vitamins. Sunflower seeds have high levels of magnesium and vitamin B6 with significant levels of iron and potassium. Flax seed has huge amounts of magnesium and dietary fibre and significant levels of vitamin B6, calcium and potassium.
Packed With Protein
All these seeds are great sources of protein. I would suggest combining the seeds to make this slimming world recipe as balanced nutritionally as possible, unless you know you have specific deficiencies.

Any good vegetable stock can replace the beef stock and with all the soya and TVP products available as meat alternatives you can simply choose the one that you like best. Using fresh thyme really adds something special to the recipe. Fresh herbs are always best both for taste and nutritionally.

Being completely honest, I had never made vegetarian meatballs, so when I saw this slimming world recipe it was a challenge. I know there are various commercial products that could be used to make the meatballs quickly and easily, but I wanted to create something distinctly different.
Wonderful Vegan Protein Balls
By combining roasted pumpkin seeds and lightly mashed chick peas I was able to make succulent vegan slimming world protein balls that are great and really flexible to use in any recipes.
Feeling Naughty?
Adding a little sesame oil and roasting them produced wonderful results. Flattening them slightly and frying them in a little spray on oil works really well too, and if I’m feeling naughty, they can be deep fried as a naughty treat.
Crunchy Sesame Seed Coating
Rolling them in sesame seeds releases a whole new flavour. You could add finely chopped onions or garlic to the chick pea mix. This will give you something that is like a cross between falafel and an onion bhaji that is simply delectable. Why not try something new? Pine nuts can make a lovely change too. You can add any roasted seeds or even some roasted and crushed cashew nuts. Adding a salad with some tamarind or soy sauce is another great way to make it something special too.

For A Fiery Alternative
You could add toasted sesame seeds or roasted and crushed cashew nuts to the baked onions for a more complex flavour if desired. Adding a little chilli as you fry the onions will give them a fiery kick perfect for some soups. A little freshly ground black pepper at the same stage adds gentler warmth and changes the flavour in another exciting way. You can simply replace the stock with vegetable stock and use any of the commercially made meat alternatives if you want to. Personally, I don’t think it needs them. You can Cook it without any meat alternative and it is just as filling and comforting.
Adding Nutrients
You could add seeds to this slimming world recipe for a nutrition boost. Roasted sunflower seeds added to the vegetables are rich in flavour and nutritionally wonderful. Try using toasted sesame seeds mixed in with the vegetables or sprinkled on the potato crust. Or you can simply sprinkle some caraway seeds onto the sliced potatoes when they are almost cooked for a subtle aniseed flavour when you want something different.

When I was asked to put this list of slimming world recipes together I was new to slimming world, so I was pleasantly surprised by some of the ideas. Not just the full recipes, but the little bits that make that recipe special.
Just as I did, you can use these ideas in any way you want to. Enjoy experimenting. That joy will shine through in every dish that you cook. You can personalise all the recipes. It is surprising how much difference it can make when you only change one ingredient.
Nutrition Is Key
Nutrition is something I always try to consider in every recipe. You can improve a recipe nutritionally so easily by adding some nuts, seeds, herbs or spices. The flavour they bring to these slimming world recipes is a wonderful bonus and their nutritional value means getting all of your vitamins and minerals becomes easy.
Give Yourself a Choice
You can learn to swap ingredients around to create differences in your slimming world diet. We all have personal preferences, and some would argue this is our body’s way of telling us about something that we need. To listen to that voice you need to quieten down the voices of all the food advertising you have ever heard, but it is possible. You could try meditating to achieve that quiet time, and then try listening to that quiet voice inside that has been drowned out by modern life.
