What makes this easy Sweet Potato Casserole so good?

There are lots of reasons I love this recipe. It’s simple, and traditional, for one, and those are two of my favorite adjectives. For another, it’s pretty inexpensive. They practically give marshmallows away, and I usually always have some leftover pecans from baking my other dishes at Thanksgiving, so the only thing I really need to buy to make this recipe are the canned sweet potatoes.

The best thing? No one knows it only takes five minutes, because it’s so decadent and delicious! It’s perfect for those holiday meals and I look forward to it every year! Of course, everyone may know now because I just put it on the internet…Kind of blew that cover.

Sweet potatoes are a very versatile food and pairs well with several types of meat. Since they have a naturally sweet flavor, they’re a great match for the savory nature of meat. Most people eat turkey or ham with sweet potatoes, traditionally.

Can I use fresh sweet potatoes instead of canned sweet potatoes?

You can, but you’ll need to peel and cook them first. For this recipe, you will need the equivalent of a 40 oz can, so about 4 cups of cooked, cut sweet potato. I use canned sweet potatoes for convenience. We have a large family dinner each year (about 30 people, mostly adults) and only three people cook. That being said, I need as many shortcuts as possible, so I make this canned Sweet Potato Casserole and everyone LOVES it.
