Unpopular opinion

As much as I enjoy playing both RDR1 and RDR2, I’m honestly surprised how many players view outlaws as ‘good’ guys and law enforcement as ‘bad’ guys.

Not too surprising. You play these games as an outlaw. You're looking at law enforcement and general society through the eyes of an outlaw.

It also doesn't help that the game itself portrays law enforcement as corrupt, even without taking into consideration that the gangs they're hunting down are also bad. That's why I don't understand why people commend Ross for his efforts. The guy was content with wiping out an entire group of Native Americans just so another guy could get elected as governor as part of one of his pledges.

Milton was also fine with gunning down an entire house full of outlaws, but also innocent women and children. What exactly could warrant people like Grimshaw, Tilly, or even young Jack to be killed in an effort to wipe out a gang? At most, they could be wanted for harbouring fugitives, but that doesn't mean they should be killed either.

Non are good people. And most players know that

Out of the Van Der Linde Gang aside from Jack it was justified as Grimshaw was harboring fugitives while Mary Beth,Abigail Sadie and Karen were thieves Molly was even offered to walk for information but chose to aid criminals as she protected Dutch but lied to law enforcement on his whereabouts potentially getting herself labeled as an accomplice considering the Pinkertons had tabs on her as Dutch's Mistress

Milton and Ross were pretty corrupt and worst than the criminals they’re hunting, I will never understand people who says they were “just doing their job”. As for criminals, if we’re talking of people like Colm O’Driscoll or every other gangs, yeah they’re despicable but the Van der Linde gang was fine at the beginning, not the most sad*sts criminals

Milton had a point he went after all sides giving the Van Der Linde Gang direct chances per Hosea warning Dutch they'd gone too far and even Arthur saying how they've been chased across states not the usual out of town routes. He mainly focused on the leaders foremost before deciding to be done with the gangs entirely while having clear character flaws such as being racist during h8s interaction with Lenny and not sparing to put Jack in foster care vs murdering hum with the gang for the greater good as he's rather take down everyone despite who may be caught in the crossfire rather more people die at Dutch's hands both lawman and innocents considering Dutch's gang was now far from their "Robin Hood" image days. As for Ross he was more vindictive than Milton and focused on his own glory rather than the goal at hand as he belittled his assistant Archer Fordham repeatedly taunted John even when he completed task and ultimately double crossed him in the end. I'm not saying Milton is a clean lawman like Leigh Johnson but he's more moral than Ross by a long shot as he does give the gang fair chances and doesn't hide his intentions while Ross constantly plays a game of cat and mouse with John knowing he'll kill him and hia family whether he does as he's told or not.

I agree Ross was worse but Milton giving them chances doesn’t change who he is although you have a point when saying that he did not hide his intentions

For sure both are bad I'd just rather deal with Milton it's like comparing Bill & Duttch both are murderous outlaws who rob and kill in cold blood while leading their own gangs only Bill is kore transparent in who he is which is a hot headed tempered drunk with a military background while Dutch is two coins charismatic con man or ruthless serial killer. Out of everyone from RDR/RDR2 Milton is the only one who's truthful to who he really is with both his actions and intentions he even revealed the whole truth to Arthur in the presence of Sadie & Abigail in the end ojot taunting Arthur when he sees Arthur is sick and can't keep the gun steady which proved to be a mistake as the one time the normally sharp minded no nonsense Milton let his guard down Abigail blew a hole in it. That's where Ross is different he's rarely if ever alone with John plus he has ultimate leverage as if anything happens to him John would be executed and his family imprisoned getting John the do his bidding while Archer Fordham ourof all BOI/Pinkertons is the most admirable as he joined purely to avenge Blackwater particularly his mother who was morally wouded the 1899 massacre so he wanted to fight for justice as despite the bickering wiith John he does thank him for his service without malice or sarcasm and even puts up with Ross although he doesn't dabble in the seedy corruption tactics as his boss.

What do you think?
